Neil Buchan Grant - Biography

I'm a photographer based in Cheltenham, England. After years of making pictures for fun, my work was noticed by a publisher and I was given the opportunity to photograph travel guides for Berlitz and Insight Guides. Over 8 years my pictures won several awards including the British Travel Press Photographer of the Year. During these travel assignments I developed a greater interest in portraiture.  I felt increasingly compelled to photograph the many strangers I encountered. These fleeting interactions became the highlights of each assignment for me. I soon moved from photographing strangers to working with more willing subjects from actors and models to corporate clients. Broadening my scope from editorial to include commercial work, I've since been commissioned by many interesting people and companies from the worlds of fashion, stage performance, design, events and tourism.

I also enjoy helping others make the most of  their photography so I offer 1-2-1 tuition, zoom consultations, portfolio reviews and I run overseas Phototours for KUONI. Wherever we go, I continue to engage with and photograph the strangers we meet and I encourage my clients to do the same. Often we also work with a local model, dancer or actor to enrich our experience of photographing a new culture. Whatever the majesty of the sights we witness on these thrilling tours, it's often the 'model days' which emerge as the clients' highlight, photographically.

History:  I was a brand Ambassador (UK) and Visionary (European) for the Japanese camera company Olympus for 5 years, I've had two solo exhibitions and I have been published in a number of books and magazines.

Inspiration: Lillian Bassman, Saul Leiter, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Elliot Erwitt, Nick Knight, Sam Jones, Art Streiber
